Surfaces Format

Is there a reason why a surface won't render when created with the D3DFMT_X8R8G8B8 format ? It is rendered only when I use D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8. any ideas ? thx.

(1) Have you checked the debug output from the debug runtimes? Is it spitting out anything relevant?

(2) Have you checked the caps of your card for D3DFMT_X8R8G8B8?

(3) Can you post relevant code?
