I want to make an MMORPG. Just Kidding. Even still, a game in 5 weeks may seem ambitious to all of you. It most certainly seems that way to me, but I do not have a choice. So before this project gets narged on because it is impractical, please realize that this is something that must be done. Now that I have said that... Hi, I am currently a student at UW Madison working on a Game Project in a team of 4. The Spec for the project can be found here. Our assignment is to design and build a game in 5 Weeks. We are currently starting week 2, and coding is about to begin. I already had a topic regarding design which can be found here. Our abstract game design document can be found here. Basically, we are building a 3D "Tower Defense" game. I am posting the project here simply to see what the community thinks about our project, its design, its progress, and its results (which will be available for download later). Any and all feedback is appreciated. I will, on occasion, post our progress here and perhaps some links to test builds. I am also open to suggestions or submissions. If you have sound or art that you would like put into our project under GPL (you will be credited in the game), send me a private message. With all of that placed out. I should get back to coding... Wish us luck. :) -sevans and the CS Loungeware Team [Edited by - Sevans on April 1, 2007 3:02:59 PM]

My suggestion is this: Keep it simple. Set a reasonable goal for your time frame (5 weeks). Then map out VERY attainable sub-goals for each day/session. Make them things you will easily achieve. Then each day you work until you achieve that goal and anything extra you do is up to you. It will keep you focused, keep your morale high, keep you from getting bogged down with feature creep.

Good luck!

Project Done!

There are still some bugs and we had to deter from the initial design, but 5 weeks (only 3 to code)!

The final product can be found here. Some of our game project documentation can be found there as well. The game is compiled for Windows. To install it, simply unzip all the contents and then double click the executable to run it. As of now, the project requires you to have Visual Studio installed to run. It might work with VS 2003 or VC++ Express Edition, but I have not verified it either way.

Let me know what you all think of our 5 (really only 3) week creation.

Thanks,

sevans

Well, it's good to see a fellow Wisconsinite accomplishing a game project. I'm from Kenosha, and I have been wanting to get my game made for some time now, but my ancient, dilapidated laptop hasn't been agreeing with me. But I have gotten started with the coding, and I am getting quite far. Your story is inspiration for me. Thank you.

200mb? I don't think that I could make that much content in 5 weeks if I tried! May I ask why it's so large? I would bet that it's size is deterring many downloaders (including me) from seeing how much you accomplished in such a short time period.
