DirectX version compatibility with vb6

DirectX 8.1 was the last version that supported VB6 development directly. Managed DirectX is not compatible with VB6.

For hobby-based DirectX development, I recommend taking a look at XNA and especially the XNA Studio Express, available free. Even though it is based on C# instead of VB, it is developed for the same audience (or so I've heard) that were primarily target users of the VB6 bindings of DirectX long ago.

You can also use the Managed DirectX 1 from Visual Basic.net if the choice of language is important.
