DirectX Drawing a map

Hi, I'm messing around with some tile maps and I was doing a really big map (well, not really big, but 250x50 tiles and it seems that the FPS when zoomed out goes to 30 as opposed to 33 qwhen zoomed in. I dont think the 33 FPS is right, because even when drawing 1 tile it is at 33fps heh. Anyway, my question is, does DirectX automatically not draw things that arent visible? I.e., can I simply have my drawMap() function draw the entire map, and if theyre zoomed in, DirecX will only care about what can be seen? What i thought I was going to do was calculate the field of view and how many tiles would be seen and then draw the stuff inbetween. Any explanation would be sweeet ;D Thanks.
