Engine Resource Recommendations

Hey guys. Are there any recommendations for resources on how to build a 3D engine? I've taken a look at a bunch of books that claim to do this, but they're just glorified Direct3D tutorials. I'm looking for a book that's targeted at someone who knows how to program and is just looking for suggestions on how to fit all the components together. I currently have a 3D engine I built with OGRE, Newton, FMOD, and a custom AI state machine, but I'm not really pleased with how everything works. Thanks!

"Introduction to Game Development", edited by Steve Rabin, is a good book. It covers all aspects of building a game, including software architecture.
