Game Development/Design/Art Career Questions

Recommended Posts

Howdy! I'm new to board and it's nice to be here. I have an assignment for a class. It is to get an interview from someone in the game development field as well as do a career profile. My assignment has a sheet with some questions on it, so I should be a bit easy. Please answer if applicable I would really appreciate it! I personally am pursuing any sort of art/concept stuff as well as design, but anyone in the field with any job is very welcome (i would much appreciate it even) to answer. The answers can be given in considering a "Career Profile" as you best see it or as a "Personal or Informational Interview". If you know of any other forums/sites that I could post this, please list them as well. Thanks! 1.What would I do? How would I spend a typical day at work? 2.Training Requirements--How long will it take to get ready to enter the field? 3.Projections--what is the future job market? 4.Salary and Benefits--what can be expected? 5.What are the non monetary rewards? 6.What are the opportunities for career mobility? 7.With what type of people would I be working? 8.What are the liabilities and limitations of this career? 9.What learning opportunities will I have? 10.What will I be able to contribute? (your name/employer/job/etc... would be great if you feel comfortable with that as well. Thanks again!)

Man! I've had your site bookmarked (and read many times) for like a million years. It is actually quite helpful and I very much appreciate it!

Well, it's only been around for 7 years, but I get the picture.
So, the career you want is "design/art"? Can you be more specific? Check the credits for any video game, and check the specific art roles at http://www.igda.org/breakingin/path_art.htm, and the design roles at http://www.igda.org/breakingin/path_design.htm - nobody can answer your questions sufficiently without knowing which role you're specifically targeting.
