However, if they add the big, boring countryside and too-big world of San Andreas I probably won't waste my time. Liberty City was a great city design: tight spaces, lots of side areas, and a fun place to drive. Vice City was an ok city, but not nearly as intricate. San Andreas tried so hard to be "teh bigest game evar!" that it just became boring.

Hey I thought I was the only one who thought the same thing. I liked GTA3 a lot, and it is the only one of of those three I actually played all the way through. I went halfway through Vice City and San Andreas but then got bored with them. I stopped SA after the toy airplane missions which made me want to throw my gamepad at my monitor. I never could put my finger on why I liked GTA3 more than the others. Maybe it was story, maybe city layout.

I have long since uninstalled GTA3, but if I recall correctly, the cars had more detail and better textures in GTA3, they were even shiny. I remember starting to play Vice City and the cars looked crappy & dull. I only played the PC versions.
what i want:
traffic jams
lots of people crosses the road at the same time
more realistic cops, more punishment. GTA3a/b/c were too easy. The cop/medic/taxi quests were easy. Killing hundreds of cops and climbing into a tank was too easy.
Better weapons.
And a great story.

Unfortunately too many people consider San Andreas to be the pinnacle of the series, and R* will probably cater to them and make another oversized and underpopulated world.

To each his own, I guess. I rather enjoyed the vast, open plains/deserts and the little suburban villages dotting the landscape in San Andreas. Especially during the monster truck or drag racing missions.

Area 51 and the massive airfield were my faves, I loved it too.

Oh, and the toy aeroplane missions: I never ever got past some arsehole mission called "Supply Lines". I'd have traded the game in if that was required to progress properly through the story, even though I finished the whole story mode anyway.

I just got sick of the stupid things like the dating and lowrider competitions. I just loved driving around the deserts etc, it was great.

Better weapons? What exactly was wrong with the weapons in previous GTA games? This is just an inquiry into your thoughts, not an attack, by the way. I'm just wondering.

It's like playing an MMORPG without the reward of levelling up...

you didn't play san andreas, did you.

I've been a fan of GTA since the original GTA. I remember getting the demo on a PC Gamer CD and loving it. When GTA3 came out I was the first one I knew to buy it and play the crap out of it. I remember thinking "this is awesome, but where are the motorcycles that made the original so much fun?" Then vice city came out and they'd added motorcycles, and it too was awesome. Then, San Andreas came out, and they'd revamped a lot of the control scheme. The way you shoot people is much different (and better, I feel) than in III or VC. The motorcycles also handle better; it feels more arcade-style, where everything is intuitive rather than having a system you have to adapt to.

Plus, San Andreas was HUGE, going to the casinos and gambling away millions is awesome, getting your own airport and Harrier Jet is awesome, and doing the docks mission where you have to steal cars from 3 different islands is awesome.

Trailer was weak and the suped up graphics showed me nothing special. All I know is a Russian is the main character.
Oh? Well, allow me share my findings with you then. The trailer also let us know the city will be Liberty City, modelled more closely after New York than in GTA 3, and the year seems to be fairly recent. I hope this helps!

It's like playing an MMORPG without the reward of levelling up or playing with friends online.
You could say that about every single game that doesn't have levelling up or online game, and be equally wrong.

Did anyone notice that the trailer/teaser doesn't mention Grand Theft Auto at all? All it says is IV.

I hope it's something new. Not just a few new features and better graphics.
Something which will revolutionize the way we think about GTA's.
