I am in my 2nd-3rdish year of Computer Science and I am wondering if there is some kind of 3D game maker program to play around with free-nonfree doesnt really matter. Im hoping to make games, I'm learning Flash programming, C++, had a VB6 class and know Linux scripting somewhat. But ya anyone have any advice as to what programs I should look into or what I should do to get started etc, my experience in game making so far is modding, an adventure game in GW Basic, and the RPGMaker 2003.

I find BlitzBasic the most convenient for quick prototype development. It is commercial, but a demo version is available that cannot compile and is limited to a 16k source file (I believe). However, what program you use really depends on what you want to do with it.
