Well, art is a massive subject. Are you asking how to use, say, photoshop, or are you asking how to become an artist?

lol, slowdown there. no reason to rush yourself. 2d, and 3d art, alogn with all forms of programming are massive subjects that take years to be knowledgable in.
i say stick with one particluar subject and stay with that for a while, otherwise you're bound to get overwhelmed.

I'm asking on how to use. photoshop and stuff...
anyway, I know art is a massive subject and that is why it's very difficult to know where to start...
maybe you can recommand me of books which i can learn from, books for beginners.

I tried googling Rayman, but since there are several versons of the game for mutiple platforms, all of which had somewhat different graphics, I wasn't sure what qualified as 'the first one'. Perhaps you could link to a specific screenshot from the game including both a background and the character. And also a sample of your current art.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

""otherwise you're bound to get overwhelmed.""

Thats true, games need designs and concepts, then full color graphics, and to top it off you need animation skills.

I know which Rayman game, there is even an easy to get demo.
Art is a career path by itself but it's possible for you to learn enough basics to get by with placeholders that mean something.

Zoggle http://www.zoggles.co.uk/asp/tutorials.asp?show=index has nice tutorials about pixel art.

You can also check Pixeldam's links.
here are some screenshots from the game itself..

I recommend So You Want To Be A Pixel Artist? and the tutorials at Pixel Joint (under the features tab).
