building design for 3D games...

Hey... I'm currently trying to design a 3D world in 3ds max and and working on a few buildings, siuch as skyscapes, shops and general buildings you would expect to find in a city. I'm looking for some guidance on developing these objects...what would you suggest i use as a polygon budget for each building, how detailed do you think they should be? thanks for any help

I can't say exactly. If there is no LOD then as low as possible, try to make textures do a maximum ammount of work.
It's next to impossible to tell, without knowing what engine you'll be working with (what optimization tricks it supports, etc.) and what hardware it needs to run on. I'd say, throw together a rough version of what would be an average level, and test it on a representative system to see how far you can go with the polies. :)
