C++ project books from scratch?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I want to learn C++ (I have programming knowledge in python, C# and a little in C), and I'm going to read "Thinking in C++" (if you know a better book, please tell me (Bjarne's book is very difficult :P). I want to know if there is any book/web tutorial of C++ projects, like console games/programs projects explained from scratch to learn how to face a project from scratch to finish. Thank you in advance.

some great books (also recommened by my programming) tutor are:

C++: How to Program Fifth Edition by Harvey & Paul Dietel (2005) - Prentice Hall.
Could prossibly be described as the 'bible of C++' an excellent reference book for all things C++.

Game Programming in C++ Start to Finish by Erik Yuzwa (2005). Thompson Delmar Learning/Charles River Media. ISBN: 1-58450-432-3

to be honest when you get to grips with c++, i would reccomend trying SDL, there are a couple of great sites like Lazy Foo's which i found useful myself

You're not going to find a book explaining a console game from scratch. A console game takes, on average, 50 people 2 entire years to make. That's a lot of stuff to fit into any book.

Your best bet is to start small -> learn a language & make a text game

Then do a simple 2D graphics game -> tetris, pong, breakout, etc

Then dive into 3D

I meant a little text Game about 500 lines of code or so.
Or a little text program using OOP.

Nothing big :P

Tom L - For reference, i have "The c++ programming language special edition" :)

Thanks for the replies.
