DirectPlay Packet.Write() problems

yes, i know i should be using something newer... alright. so im trying to write some stuff to a DirectPlay.NetworkPacket using packet.Write im sending an ArrayList of Player info... ive tried typeconverter... ive tried Arraylist.ToArray() and it says: "you must supply a valuetype for this function" when it tries to write it... No idea occasionally, also, i get "Operation is not valid due to the durrent state of the object" ive searched the forums... but noone has supplied an answer, past serialization that works.... any ideas?
