Multithreading Book Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a book to learn about parallelization. I'm a long-time programmer, and I'm familiar with threading, thread synchronization, and even more advanced topics like lock-free algorithms. What I'm looking to learn now is the theoretical aspects of parallelization. Specifically, how do deal with the task of parallelizing very complex and non-independent systems, such as games (as that's one of the major possibilities for the industry I'll go into), so that they can take full advantage of multiple cores (including large numbers of cores, like the Cell). As well, how to design new systems so that they can be best optimized to exploit multiple cores. Do any good books on the topic exist?

Math is important especially when designing robust, high-performance multithreaded software engine. Probability is useful for scheduling the threads. Advanced math is important when you focus on specific data analysis.

Look for books on math and probability.
