OpenGL renderer plugin?
Is it possible to have a (web page) ActiveX object display 3D models using OpenGL? If it is possible, it might involve the use of <object> and <embed> tags, which would make it a simple matter of acquiring the Class Id of the OpenGL display renderer. Which might be more difficult than it looks, because OpenGL can be customized (being open-source and all), which would change it's Class Id. It would be a cool alternative to buying a modeling program and having it open up and load the model when you click on the link, and it might be possible to use that to edit models. (Also, not to sound dumb, but what exactly is OpenGL's native format, or does it have one? I always assumed it was *.obj, but I could be wrong.)
I believe it would be possible to write an activex control to render things, but there aren't any I am aware of. Second Opengl is not open source. It is an open standard in that no one company controls it. Mesa is an open source work a like , that can't claim to be opengl with out paying the licensing fees. Third Opengl doesn't provide file support of any kind you have to write your own. Finally you seem to be confused about what Opengl is, It is a library of functions that allow a programmer to write cross platform, hardware accelerated, graphics programs. It is not something you can run or use directly.
I've seen somewhere on this forum someone was able to create a javascript OpenGL thingy in a webpage, allowing for realtime rendering (well, as realtime as javascript will allow ;) ). I believe they called it JSOGL or some such, try searching for that. Also, you can have OGL in Java so maybe making a Jave Applet with OpenGL is a possibility for you.
