Distributed processing with games

Would it be possible to allocate resources and assign cpu operations using distributed computing techniques and APIs over ethernet connections with multiple computers? I know programming languages (that won't be the problem) but I have a feeling that the entire game engine would have to be based on distributed processing and that I can't have a loader that distributes .exe binary commands.
