Socket Disconnection Problems

i am building a c# network application using asynchronous TCP, i use socket.poll(...) to know if there is data to receive. i use different connection threads (each thread has a socket). i want to detect if the other side has disconnected the right way. And i have another problem, sometimes when i call socket.poll(...) function and it returns true, then i try socket.Receive(...) it gives a socketexception, "the other side has forcibly closed connection" and this is not true. The fact is that the other side didn't disconnect. Did the Windows close my connection or what? i really wanna know. Any help will be appreciated, thnx.
