Visual Basic 2005 and Asteroids Game

Hey there. I am new here and am a senior in High School. I have taken C++ programming classes and Visual Basic 2005 class. I am now trying to keep my skills sharp which is why I am coding a few games over the summer before attending college for computer engineering. I started my project and made most of my own sprites. The physics are lacking in my game, although it does have full movement. I originally made a square ship that shot a missile from each side. Now i have decided to make change it around and make the ship shoot form its gun on the front. I have no idea how to make the ship rotate which is why I am seeking help. I've noticed in many games the rotation of an object is one long single picture that is used. I have created my own and now am trying to figure out how to put it to use. Could anyone give me an example of a VB 2005 game of asteroids or tell me how to make the ship move or help me with physics of the ship (thrusters). Thanks.

Here is some C code for a GDI version of asteroids that I adapted from code I found on the www for a 16 bit version of the game. It's really bare bones - no scores, no ufo's, just rotating asteroids and a triangle ship that fires bullets and moves with little bursts of red exhaust. YMMV.
