Visual Studio 2005 Express doesn't have a resource editor. You can still add resources by editing the .rc file with notepad, and you can still import existing .rc files.

The express edition was designed mainly for C# development (Hence why you need to download the Platform SDK to do C++ development), and I assume C# does resorces differently.
All the other versions include the resource editor.

If you're a student, there's an acedemic version I think, but I don't really know anything about that.

You can get a free Resource Editor called ResED here:

1. Goto RadASM.com
2. Click on 'RadASM projects'
3. ResEd will be listed there.

I've been using it on simple projects for years. It's always been good enough for me. After downloading it, I add it to the external tools section of my IDE so that it works as if it were part of the IDE. :)
