MDX - Mesh.DrawSubset crashed with effect

The effect works fine with a textured quad. i load up the sphere model that comes with the directX samples and it shows textured fine without the effect. when i begin a pass on the effect i get a Direct3DException on on Mesh.DrawSubset. Any ideas?

check if vertex declaration of the mesh is the same with the vertex input of the vertex shader

That got it. The vertex shader has colors, the mesh didn't. Thanks. Rating++.
