Xna Vector2.transform and Xna createrotation problems

Tring to rotate a 2-d sprite outside the draw function is starting to annoy me. Well I been tring to do it as follows: 1.Create a matrix and assign it to matrix.createroationX 2.I use vector2.transform to apply the matrix to the vector point position of where im going to draw the sprite. 3. The outcome is the spite is moved left or right or up or down or whatever but it does rotate at all. Can anyone please shade some light on how to perform a rotation on a sprite by using a matrix and apply it to a 2-d sprite? Rotate means displaying the sprite at a different angle right?
