Negotiating Reasonable Salary for Game Testing Job?
Hello, I'm going to be starting a job soon at a game development company. I know the person who's hiring me through a personal contact, and they're asking me how much I want per hour for this job.
My duties for this company would be testing a game from home and writing bug reports as well as giving them gameplay advice. I would also travel into their offices every so often to check in and have discussions about the game (these occasions would be long commutes otherwise I'd want to be there more often). I had a brief experience working for this person before (while she was at a different company actually) and they found me to be very helpful.
I have no idea how much game testers should get paid or if this sounds like it's more than an average tester's job. I'm not part of a large group of testers, more like an internal tester.
So what's your advice on how much I should initially ask for?
Testers who work full-time in the office testing games get around ten dollars an hour. http://www.gamecareerguide.com/features/266/index.php
They might not want to pay you that much for home testing.
