quick HGE gui question

I haven't found much documentation for HGE, even though it is very self-explanatory. So, heres the question: does the hgeGUIObject id matter in anyway. For instance, can I set the first hgeGUIObject's id to 1 while I set the next one's id to 1024? I guess what I'm asking is if the hgeGUIObjects must be continuous or can there be gaps in the id's?
