Setting up Allegro in Code::Blocks
I just need help setting up Allegro in Code::Blocks. I think I downloaded the wrong API set, but I'm not sure. I downloaded the MinGW version, but maybe I should download and use the MSVC version; I'm honestly not sure what I need to use.
Also, do I
1.) Copy ALL .DLL files in Windows/System32 folder
2.) Copy all contents in .Bin folder, and .include folder to the respective Bin, and include folder to the respective compiler folders on your HD?
That is all I know what to do. Last, but not least hopefully. Is there away where Code::Blocks will ask me if I want to create an Allegro project in the New Project window during startup? I just got "Game Programming All In One" by Jonathan S. Harbour, and hope to really dive into it this weekend.
Thanks,
code::blocks do work with almost all compilers but i think you are using mingw(you have downloaded code::blocks rc2?). try to create new project->allegro project and follow the instructions
That is how easy I thought it was, but didn't realized what release of code blocks I had. I was quit aware of the compiler, and version I had, but didn't I never saw the create new project -> allegro project it was never that easy for me. I have version 1.0 release candidate 2.0 which is new, and knowing that Allegro has been out for awhile I was just wondering why my version wasn't supporting a such a project.
Yes, this is a stupid question indeed, maybe I worded it wrong, maybe you just misinterpreted it wrong, but you do sound so sarcastic with your answer. Did you rate me low because you thought of this as being such a stupid question? YIKES, if you did! I have posted very few forums, because I want such a high score, but I only want my score to be reflected by the screen shots, and games I send in here.
Thanks,

Thanks,
hey carlsfinch, just thought i'd point out :
from http://www.codeblocks.org/downloads.shtml :
"The last stable release is from a while back: 1.0rc2 (dated Oct 25, 2005)."
"Note though, that the fact that nightly builds are "development" snapshots, doesn't make them immediately unusable. As a matter of fact, any recent snapshot is much more stable than our last "stable" release (so called 1.0rc2). In terms of features any snapshot is leaps ahead 1.0rc2."

I'm having the similiar problem. I'm also using the same book and I'm attempting to use it in Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition. I followed the direction of the book but when I try to run the program I get a: "This application has failed to start becuase MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." error. I've re-installed both the allegro parts and Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition and still get it. I also downloaded the .dll and placed it into the SYSTEM32 folder but that caused more errors so I deleted it.
