Here's a quote from the SDL website:

"Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL...SDL is written in C, but works with C++ natively..."

Conclusion: SDL IS OpenGL, and it will compile in C++ just fine.

And, although I've never worked with SDL myself, I hear it's just about the simplest API for making games available.

Cheers!

SDL isn't OpenGL; it says "3D graphics through OpenGL". It provides an OpenGL context if you ask for one, but by default is not.

That said, the source code's non-SDL components are directly applicable to OpenGL, and if you can't see that, you need to start simpler, probably with "Hello World".

Ravuya,

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't mean to imply SDL was the same thing as OpenGL, just that while using SDL, you may still render with OpenGL.

And I don't know much more than that, having never used SDL. [lol]
