I'm currently writing out the pseudocode for a small demo of ODE. It involves a tank that shoots blocks and there's buildings of blocks everywhere. If the tank shoots a building or runs into one, the buildings would tumble over. Now, I really want to take advantage of Spaces for optimization. Each building will be inside it's own Space, but I have a question: If a block from a building gets hit so hard that it runs into another building, would the contact still register even though it is inside a different space?

The answer is no.
Unless you perform checks against the other spaces as well...

What I've done is adding static geometry to spaces, and then add all dynamic objects to the global-space (a.ka. head-space).
That way all movable objects interact with all spaces.
