Integration of Shader Framework

Hi..i m learning 3D game Engine programming and developing my own Engine.I have decided to skip the Fixed function pipeline..at the same time i want my engine to run on low end hardware too.So is it fair to skip the Fixed funtion pipeline(as fixed funtion pipeline can b implemented by simple shaders)? I want to integrate generalized shader framework and also want info abut how to design a autofallback system in the engine. I need suggestions abut the design of such system...or if anyone knws good articles or tutorials..plz let me knw.. Thankz in advance..!

Theres lots of information on these forums about such systems.
You are correct if you abstract a shader then the fixed function pipeline can be implemented as a shader.
Use the forum search feature, there's a wealth of information on shader frameworks and fallbacks.
This is possibly the most famous thread. There have been many spin-offs from it so search using similar terms and phrases and I'm sure you can easily find each and every one.
