V-sync question

Recommended Posts

V-sync = Vertical synchronization.
Your video card can/may draw a scene hundreds of times per second but your monitor can refresh its contents 60/75/80/100 times per second depending on its quality, the current screen resolution etc.If v-sync is off the graphics card will send output to the screen without taking the refresh rate into account and you will get frame rates depending on how fast your card is.
If v-sync is on the graphics card will be synchronized to the screen and you will be capped at the refresh rate.So frame rate will not pass the refresh rate of the monitor.
Leaving v-sync off lets you see how well your game is performing as you can see the real frames per second though it may cause tearing.
