Hiya, I've designed my current project's renderer to have an Initialize() function, which returns false if it fails. The client passes it a pointer to a callback function, which then allows the client to set the display mode and other settings, and check for any specific hardware support that it needs. The problem is, the engine also has certain hardware requirements, such as HW T&L amongst others. I'd like to be able to communicate back to the calling code the reason why it failed, so some sort of message can be shown to the user instead of "Game failed to initialize". I'm hesitant to use exceptions here, as a failed initialization is expected, but I'm not sure of best way. Perhaps some sort of GetLastError() function? Many thanks for any suggestions [smile]
