I have had some experience with 3D modeling with Blender and 3DS. Now that i have some nice plant and structure models, I would like to create an environment for them. Nothing fancy. Just some terrain with models plopped around. The only interaction I want is movement with the arrow keys and the ability to look around with the mouse. Where do I start? Do I need any extra programs? Thank you, C.Bomb

You could always try the blender game engine. I haven't done anything with it personally, though. It's included with blender, too.

Here's a tutorial

As far as programming it goes, it can take people months to do what you just described. Depending on the model format, there are various programs that will do just that.

Just mod an existing engine with your art assets: Source, Crysis, Torque, Unreal, etc. all come with world building tools that you can use to do what you want.
