Okay I am trying to access the file contents of a GZ file named, say, widget.tar.gz. I asked what sort of zip utility to use to uncompress this type of file and someone answered a program called 7zip. So I went to the official 7zip site and the executable is no longer available online. So I did my own investigating a found a utility called WinGZip. I downloaded WinGZip and just tried using it and either: (a) it does not work or do what I think it does, or (b) I am not using it correctly at all. I have very little/limited experience with zip files. I am a frail and feeble old man who does not completely understand these computer boxes. Please, could someone - anyone - just give me a step-by-step walkthrough of how to unzip this widget.tar.gz file (including referring me to a zip utility site that actually works and is simple to use)?? thanks... feeble, frail, old and confused plywood

WinRar can extract tarballs I'm fairly certain. If you have access to a Linux system it has native support for .tar.gz.
