You could definitely have something simple running in less than a couple hours. There are lots of examples included so you'd pick the one that best matches what you're trying to do and start from there.

Are there many copies left in this offer?

I was thinking I'd go for it, but I do not have the full version of Visual Studio. I have Visual C++ 2005 Express, and I installed the 2003 Platform SDK. I have had Win32 apps running I and I'm sure DX apps should be fine too (my projects almost build except for some project settings). But your solutions don't appear to have any settings for DX include folders and libraries. That's easy to fix. But they also make use of some file <atlXXX.h> (I don't have access to the code here) which isn't part of the Windows Platform SDK.
Do you know where this file comes from?
Do you know if anyone got the engine to work with Express?
Is there any reason why it would not be possible?

Loads of developers use the express versions as they are great tools and very cheap. If I could see how to use your engine with it, I would definitely buy it. But I can't afford to buy the full version of VS to make your engine work.
There was a thread a while ago about making Power Render work with VC Express and how to solve the ATL linker problem.

There are still plenty of copies left. I expect we'll reach 500 in a little over month at the current rate people are buying it.

I'll read through that at home later, looks like it is totally possible, which is nice.
