[web] Asp.Net - OpenGL or other fast graphics output widget?
Hi,
We are looking to expand our media player into a youtube/google video/silverlight like web based media player. But I'm having no luck finding any information on how to output fast (30fps bare min) video output, in asp.net.
So does anyone have an idea on how we could achieve this?
How does SilverLight(An asp media player type service) do it? I see it is avaliable for mac as well, so i'm assuming it's not directx. yet it's hard to imagine ms using opengl in one our their products.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, I'm very new to asp.net, and am drowning atm :)
Thanks.
If I remember correctly, Silverlight's video codecs are implemented in software to ensure maximum compatibility across OS platforms and device classes.
Silverlight, like Flash, has no dependencies on ASP.net (or any other server platform). It is possible to optimize streaming approaches on the server side, but the browser-side media controls do not care much whether you do this or not.
ASP.net is a convenient platform for hosting Silverlight content since it can automatically abort media stream downloads if the client stops the streaming process. You don't have to do anything special to enable this functionality.
