what is .NET and where can i learn about it. what are Windows Forms? if you were to recomment one book on openGL, what would it be? preferably geared towards beginners

I second Palidine suggestions and add the following for
.NET C# and ASP both use the .NET framework

The OpenGL Red Book is the best book to learn OpenGL

.NET is a framework created by Microsoft that would make programming in the supported languages easier by providing many classes and tools.

When you compile a .NET code, it is transformed into an intermediate language called MSIL (microsoft intermediate language) (similar to Java Byte Code in java) and that MSIL code can only execute on machines that have the .NET platform installed (CLR = Common Language Runtime)(similar in function to Java's Virtual Machine). This means that .NET applications will run on whatever machine Microsoft has intended them to.

.NET combines Visual Basic, C#, J# and C++ (managed)


Windows Forms applications are simply applications that have a windows form in them :) Specifically, an application can have either a console or they can have a windows form (or both)
