DXUT: why is setting DepthStencilState and BlendState necessary

Hello. HLSL code from Tutorial 10: DepthStencilState EnableDepth { DepthEnable = TRUE; DepthWriteMask = ALL; DepthFunc = LESS_EQUAL; }; BlendState NoBlending { AlphaToCoverageEnable = FALSE; BlendEnable[0] = FALSE; }; Why aren't those states on by default?
