Positioning Objects in 3D

Hi, If I have untransformed vertices, what is the best way to position my object with those vertices? I know that the projection is a 1x1 cube, but it seems sort of clunky to have to specify verts in floating point, like (0.3, 0.3, 1.0) for example. Is there some better way around this? It doesn''t seem very intuitive to me, I''m used to specifying where objects are based on screen coordinates. I know you can do this with transformed verts, but it won''t work for what I''m trying. Anyways, just wanted to know if specifying verts as from the viewpoint of a 1x1 cube is the best way to go about things. Thanks, Tom
