Easiest 3DS format to read?

Can anyone recommend a method/file format for reading texture-mapped models from Max? All I really need are vertices and UV coordinates.

I'd recommend using the .OBJ file format if its the first your exporting the models. Its pretty well documented on the web, the files are ASCII, and are quite easy to parse
search "3ds" on sourceforge, and you will find some libs that will do what you're looking for.
