FMOD Initialization

Can anyone tell me how to initialize fmod in my application? Im using blooshed with its default compiler. I followed the instructions in the manual, such as linking the library(libfmodex.a) and including the header file(fmod.h, it said that the fmod.hpp wasnt compatible with some of the compilers so i chose to include the fmod.h). I try the code for initializing the system but get errors such as "FMOD has not been declared" and "System has not been declared". I dont know if its something that im missing or what. the code im using to see if it would compile is this,:
FMOD::System *system;

FMOD::System_Create(&system);   // Create the main system object.

FMOD::System::init(100, FMOD_INIT_NORMAL, 0);   // Initialize FMOD.
i also tried the code that is in the manual but its basicly the code im using with the error trapping emitted. Any help would be great.
