First off, this is my first post so hi everyone :). I apologise for the stupid question, i have tried searching, and like many things i have run into trying to learn programming, i dont understand how this could possibly be difficult. I have written a very simple program in C# with visual c# 2005 express edition and i want to put it into a single file that i can give to friends and they can run it on their computer (PC and MAC). I would assume that would be a .exe file. All i can find is 'publish' which installs stuff on the computer and comes with three files. any help would be much appreciated, Thanks, Mick.

Build the Solution. Build -> Build Solution
The executables will be created in a bin sub folder of your project folder.
You have now compiled you code into an EXE file.

Your friends will need the .NET framework installed to run your EXE file.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. It is my understanding that anyone with windows xp/vista will have the.net framework (though probably not the most current), so that would work on their computer? but not on a mac?

Im actually trying to give it to a friend on a mac at the moment, how would i do that?

thanks again,
Mick.

No, not everyone with Windows XP has the .NET framework.
My guess is that it's included in the latest updates,
But even that could be wrong.

For Vista, yes it comes equipped with .NET framework.

For compatibility with Macs, check out http://www.mono-project.com/Mono:OSX
