Hey, guys. I've mainly been programming console applications so far, and was wanting to jump to some windows programming. My problem is I don't know where to start. I've been thinking about writing a simple text editor a la Notepad. Would this be a resonable first windows program, I picked it so I could apply file I/O to a practical app. What would you recommend?

Notepad. It's a simple app (it's so simple in C#/.NET that it's meaningless as an example). After Notepad, Paint. Then Wordpad, but only bother to implement HTML and RTF support.

I suppose 'windows' Programming means Win32 API. However I fail to see why Notepad should be all that easy...I mean... it can print ( or is printing a text area just calling a library function? )

I suppose you could start with Win32 Filesystem foo because you can do that from your console based programms, too, then go over Simple Window(s) and your own clock widget like supposed by gan to multithreading, screensaver magic or whatever deeper stuff you think is fun to do.
