Okay so when I use Textout in Directdraw I get white all around the letters. I think its because the HDC background color must default to white. I don't know this for sure though. If it is, how do I set the background for HDC? And is it possible to set it transparent? And if that's not it, please help me figure out what is going on. And yes I'm using DirectDraw7 -_- I'm a noob, so its been easier for me. The white around the text doesn't show up when I run the program under Windows 98 if that helps.

No idea about the finer details of using TextOut with DirectDraw, but with a normal DC, you would call SetBkColor, passing the HDC as the first parameter and TRANSPARENT as the second.

I assume you are getting a DC from a DirectDrawSurface? I don't know if SetBkColor will work, although I don't see why it shouldn't.
