Security Camera Shader
my question is pretty basic. my situation is i have my scene, i render it to a texture, and then using a shader in post process, i convert the scene to greyscale giving the appearance of viewing the scene from a security camera point of view. however, taking it one step further now, i want to add some 'fuzziness' or noise to the scene. however, i am not finding any help on the net.
basically i want to a scanline scroling vertically, simulating when a video camera is recording another screen along with some distortion.
any help is appreciated.
Well you could sample a noise texture. Otherwise you could look into perlin noise to generate some static.
Just use another texture with noise and change the texture coordinates for this noise texture randomly. The scanline could be produced in a similar way.
i was looking to do a noise sample, but i have not been able to find any samples of this technique online anywhere. i have looked in the d3d and ati sdk but no luck. i found one example of a vcr playback, however, the shader was in complete asm, well pixel asm, and that doesn't help me, as i have no idea what they are doing with the code.
thanks for the info, and if you knew any samples would appreciate.
thanks much guys

dude OGRE has exactly what you're looking for, the compositor demo has this old tv type shader which flickers realistically, and has the lines which scroll up the screen, and it wobbles a little too i think
