Making a roguelike.

But using a custom wingding-like font to make it graphical. Is this a good idea?

Might as well just make it tile-based at that point, no? I'm not seeing an advantage to such a middle-of-the-road approach.

That said, Dwarf Fortress does this.

One may be easier to implement than the other depending on your API perhaps? :)
Roguelikes? I approve of this project.

Make a roguelike, look at dwarf fortress, it's alot easier to use tiled sprites than curses and the console. Also google "roguelike basin" it has alot of good info

Yes. The problem I'm having is that I can't even imagine an API that this would be easier for :P.
