so, I'm trying to work through a game development book, and I'm having a problem linking stuff... I want to link libraries d3d9.h and d3dx9.h to my program, but for some reason one of them is not being recognized. I don't have access to the code here at school, btu I just wanted to post to see if anyone had any thoughts about what my problem may be. it is a program that just pulls a bitmap image onto the screen. I am using visual C++ studio 2005 express edition... probably didn't say that right, but oh well. I'll post the code later, but just wanted to put this out ahead of time to see if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks!!!

d3d9.h and d3dx9.h are not library files, they are include files. They are handles by the preprocessor, not the linker. You need to link in the library files, which are d3d9.lib, and d3dx9.lib.

Are you unable to include a file? Do you get "unresolved external symbol" errors from the linker? Please provide the exact error message for us.
