wglGetProcAddress in Linux

Hi I've been trying to get VBO's to work with no luck. I think my problem is I'm not setting a pointer to the extended functions, in windows it appears to be done like glGenBuffersARB = (PFNGLGENBUFFERSARBPROC)wglGetProcAddress("glGenBuffersARB"); However I'm using GLX and Linux and it seems the above is for windows(?). Can anyone point me to how I can do this in Linux? Thanks.
