With this type of support what's the point of using Allegro?

I just learned that what I've been trying to do in Allegro for awhile, and couldn't figure out how I could easily do it in SDL using the SDL_image library with the SDL Library, and support tga, bmp, pnm, xpm, xcf, pcf, gif, jpg, tif, tif, lbm, png, and I'm thinking with this much support what is the point of using Allegro? Both graphical "game dev purpose" libraries that makes it easier to code graphics on the screen. I'm sticking with SDL for now on.
