Hi, I just recently started up my little enterprise Glorious Games with 4 friends. We launched our first internet game appx. 1 month ago. Im studying marketing and economics and writing my final project paper about my own firm. I want to have some inspiration on where to find the best theory about ebusiness and internet marketing in the field of internet games. Does anyone know any specific books about marketing online games? Articles? Any books or articles on the subject of how to make money as a new started game developer? You may also recommend books about general internet marketing such as banner advertising, SEO and such? Our game is a text-based one, but I don't suppose that makes much of a difference regarding Thanks in advance! Pelle, Glorious Games

Thanks for the reply - I've read the entire article and in particular section F before... Still I don't think it offers much help in this regard.

Yeah, FAQ 60 doesn't have the stuff you're looking for. Hope those links you were given on IGDA's forum do the trick for you.

Sure it does!

Still I'm looking for some more in-depth theory. Might not be possible to find on such a small topic, but if we're speaking more general internet marketing there must be some books on the issue. Theory on banner-adds, theory on viral marketing programs, referral link strategy, pricing and so on...

http://www.amazon.com/Indie-Game-Development-Survival-Guide/dp/1584502142/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-7117992-0144620?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191417339&sr=1-1

If the link doesn't work, just go to Amazon.com and do a search for Indie Game Development Survival Guide by David Michael. It's a decent book.

This is probably going to give away my age, but when I want to see what books there are on a given subject, I'll often head over to the public library and/or the nearest Borders/Barnes & Noble and just browse the sections.

Thanks, I'll look for this particular book. We don't have a game industry here in this country, so the book stores don't have anything of interest. Of course I could search on the internet to find similar books, but I thought this would be a great place to ask considering the issue. Some of you might have been in same situation once.

That is not true. Two years ago I worked with a Danish game company.
Earlier this year when I was in Copenhagen I encountered a guy from a game company, he was taking photos of architectural details of city hall for use in his online game project.
A month or so ago I heard (either here or on IGDA) from another Dane, and he didn't know anybody in either of those companies. IOW, three Danish game companies at least.
