Question about XNA

Currently I'm debating on whether to stick with C++/SDL, or move to C#/XNA since it's supposedly better for beginners. I have one question though. How is XNA for 2d development? Is it any good for making 2d games like Pacman, Pong, classic Super Mario, etc?
