OpenGL Window Resize in OpenGL

When you resize a window in OpenGL, does the back buffer resize along with it or it get stretch blitted like Direct3D. In case it doesn't then what is the best way of handling such situation.. like in DirectX the best way to create AddtionalSwapChain.
