Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows any decent 3d strategy engines that I could freely use or just use as a reference. Thanks Edit: I am looking for something that uses openGL to render.

Have you looked at FreeCiv?
How''s my programming? Call 1-800-DEV-NULLwww.devnullsoftware.com
TA Spring springs to mind, although I'm not sure if that qualifies as an engine so much as a game.
There is ORTS, but its more research oriented. Too bad there isnt an easy install package for Windows.
FreeCV is kinda cool actually, but
ORTS looks more like something I was looking for.
What do u mean by research oriented?

and thank You for responding

You might also want to take a look at Glest.
"TripleA is a turn based strategy game engine and axis and allies clone."

I think Glest was a good suggestion. I was impressed with how well things work in it.
I also like globulaton 2, which is 2d.
Stratagus

It's 2D but might be fun to poke around.

Glest is really cool, I installed and played around with it
They all seem kinda big, I think it's better to
just start my own, so I could learn things
