Hey, Could you guys please test the first public beta of our game? Prerequisites are DirectX 8.0 compatible graphics card and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package. If you run into some errors or troubles, please post as much info as you can (operating system, graphics card, memory, etc...). Feel free to express your ideas, what you like in game and what you dislike. General feedback is also welcome. Note that sounds and graphics for powerups are still WIP, and that this is just a 10 levels/1 background demo. Easy/Medium/Hard differ by number of paddles and by paddle bahaviour. In game keys: Left Mouse Button - Fire the ball, pick powerup (in Medium/Hard mode) Right Mouse Button - Modifies balls direction towards lower part of screen (very useful) Middle Mouse Button/Pause - Pause Escape - Exit To Windows Screenshots: http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/6/10/25/f_ab1m_c52c506.jpg http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/6/10/25/f_ab2m_c19c78b.jpg http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/6/10/25/f_ab3m_96d02ef.jpg Download link: http://duke4e.sitesled.com/atomic_ball_beta2.zip [Edited by - duke4e on November 2, 2007 1:13:45 PM]

It's a good concept, and fun to play - for the first two levels. I think that the main problem is that no new elements of play are added to make it more interesting. The learning curve is also perhaps a little too shallow - I found level 4 no more challenging than level 3. Perhaps you should add more block types or other things (such as "Zones of Distortion"). As for stability, it seems to work fine. It has potential to be a fun little game.

Beta 2 is out. This version fixes the bug where some people couldn't run the game, also some misc bugfixes.

Download link is in first post.

Very nice game, its probably the best breakout game I have played. I like that you can bring the ball down wards with right click. The power ups like the drunken ball, and spider electric thingy were pretty nice little surprises to see as you go along also.

The levels on the other hand got pretty boring after level 2. The number of little surprises in the game just diminished at around level 4, and it just felt repetitive.

As the game progresses, the player should have more control over things or have more interesting objectives. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be great once new power ups and things are worked out.

Note, I only played easy mode.

Just wanted to say thanks for your replies. Now I need some ideas to help me a little.

How to make the game more progressive through each level? I was thinking about varying the speed of map elements on every level. Also adding smaller and bigger map elements, and maybe adding various special powers to RMB depending on map.
